Postgame Quotes: ETSU at Mississippi State
November 19, 2022 | Football
Mississippi State Head Coach Mike Leach
Q: How big was it to get that early lead and get some of those starters a chance to sit in the fourth quarter?
ML: "I thought it was good. I thought it was good we started fast both halves. I thought that part was good. We are here to take care of our business and we did. I thought most of it was bright spots. The only negative I saw is when you throw out a bunch of young guys that don't play a lot it's always a little scattered and disorganized but you know some of those guys need to focus and give us reasons to play rather than not to. There was a little bit of that and there was some sloppiness, but I did think in key times we were ready to play. I thought offense executed pretty well."
Â
Q: When you have a game like this and you are hoping to get down the depth chart, how do you manage that?
ML: "Every time I've tried to specifically plan ahead, it's been a disaster. The best way I think is to go out there and play the game, play the best you can, try to improve as a player and as a team, and then win. If some opportunities like today manifest itself, then go ahead and do it."
Â
Q: Emmanuel Forbes set the SEC and FBS record for pick sixes. What did you think of his performance today?
ML: "It was good, very impressive. In fact, we gave him the game ball. He's explosive and an inspiring guy and he needs to keep up the good work."

#2 Will Rogers, QB
Q: How important would it be to get a win and cap this regular season with The Golden Egg in your hands?
WR: "It would mean everything. That's all I'm really worried about right now. Like I said, I think they really do a good job. You can say what you want to say, but Coach Kiffin has done a great job of getting their guys ready to play and getting them excited, so I know they will be ready to play. We have to answer the call and we have to be ready to go Thursday night."
Â
Q: What impressed you the most about today's game?
WR: "Just our start. I thought we started well, maybe a hiccup here and there, but I thought we started well and ultimately played well throughout the game."
Â
Q: What does it mean to go into the Egg Bowl with this win under your belt and really getting to show off some of your skills early on today?
WR: "Yeah, pretty cool. Like you said, we have played some really good teams over the past four weeks, but it's always fun when you win, so I'm looking forward to it Thursday night."

#13 Emmanuel Forbes, CB
Q: Were you surprised they gave you the game ball? EF: "I was hoping they did, just for the memory."
Q: Were you thinking about that during the game?
EF:Â "Yeah, I was kind of mad that I dropped it and didn't keep it when I scored."
Q: How do you have such a knack for finding the football and then the end zone?
EF:Â "Probably from high school experience. I was a receiver, so that's probably what it is."
Q: What happened on that one play where you dropped the pick?
EF:Â "I'm not sure. I think one of my own teammates knocked it out of my hand trying to catch it because they didn't see me."
