Bulldogs Blow Out Buccaneers To Wrap Up Home Slate

STARKVILLE – Mississippi State scored its most points in a game in more than four years on Saturday as MSU rolled to a 56-7 victory over East Tennessee State to conclude the home portion of the 2022 schedule.
Bulldog quarterback Will Rogers threw for 301 yards and five touchdowns to lead the State offensive attack, becoming just the 10th Southeastern Conference quarterback to eclipse 10,000 career passing yards in the process. Cornerback Emmanuel Forbes collected his sixth career pick-six – setting a new SEC and FBS record – to highlight a strong day for the Dawg defense.
MSU racked up 418 yards of offense in mounting its highest point total since a September 15, 2018, game against Louisiana. Defensively, State held ETSU to just 154 yards, the lowest output by a Bulldog opponent all year. The seven points scored by the Buccaneers were also the fewest tallied by a Bulldog foe this season. Those points came courtesy of a blocked punt returned for a touchdown. However, that was far too little, far too late for ETSU.
Mississippi State controlled the game all day long. MSU scored touchdowns on each of its first four drives, mounted a 35-0 lead by halftime and ultimately cruised to the triumph.

Mississippi State wraps up the regular season with its annual contest against instate rival Ole Miss. The Bulldogs and Rebels meet again in the Battle for the Golden Egg on Thanksgiving night – Thursday, November 24 – at 6 p.m. CT at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium in Oxford. The game will be televised by ESPN.
