Williams Named Semifinalist For Witten Man of the Year Award

This marks the second straight year Williams has been tabbed a semifinalist for the award.
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State wide receiver Austin Williams has been named a semifinalist for the sixth annual Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year Award, it was announced by the organization on Wednesday (Nov. 16). This marks the second straight year Williams has been tabbed a semifinalist for the award.
All 20 semifinalists have demonstrated a record of leadership by exhibiting exceptional courage, integrity and sportsmanship both on and off the field. Williams is one of three SEC selections named to the list.
Williams is a two-time first-team Academic All-American and sports a 4.0 cumulative GPA during his time at Mississippi State. He is currently working on his third degree and is also one of 12 semifinalists for the 2022 Wuerffel Trophy.
Recently, Williams was selected as a member of the 2022 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class, presented by Fidelity Investments, and a finalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy, which is college football's premier scholar-athlete award.
Williams is in the midst of his final campaign with the Bulldogs and has excelled in every facet during his time at Mississippi State. Of his 142 career receptions, 66.2 percent have led to a touchdown or first down. He is currently ranked sixth in MSU career history with 16 receiving touchdowns. Williams is also tied for the lowest drop rate of any active SEC wide receiver with a minimum of 100 targets since 2019 (1.9 percent).
Three finalists will be named for the award on Wednesday, Dec. 14. The winner will be announced at the award ceremony in Frisco, Texas, on Feb. 23, 2023.
The winner of the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year will also receive a $10,000 contribution in his name to his school's athletic scholarship fund. The contribution will be made by Jason Witten's SCORE Foundation, the official charity of Jason and his wife Michelle. The SCORE Foundation, founded in 2007, has positively impacted tens of thousands of children and families in Texas and Tennessee over the last 15 years. The foundation operates its nationally-recognized SCOREkeepers program, which places trained male mentors on staff to work with children at family violence shelters, at nine shelters in the two states.
Williams and the Bulldogs return to action this Saturday, Nov. 19, as Mississippi State celebrates Senior Day against ETSU at Davis Wade Stadium in Starkville. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. CT on ESPN+/SECN+.
