#FromStateToSundays: Week 10 Update
November 15, 2022 | Football
STARKVILLE – The former Mississippi State duo of Chris Jones and Willie Gay Jr. certainly made their mark for Kansas City's defense during Week 10.
Jones and Gay contributed to half of the Chiefs' five sacks in a 27-17 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Jones recorded 1.5 sacks marking the 15th multi-sack of his career. The Houston native ranks 10th in the NFL with seven sacks this year and is fifth in franchise history with 56.5 career sacks. He is also tied for the league lead in overall defensive grade (92.6) from Pro Football Focus (PFF) and ranks third in pass rush with a grade of 92.3.
Gay topped Kansas City with eight tackles including one for loss. His third-down sack gives the Starkville product a career-high 1.5 this year and three for his career.
Jones and Gay were not the only former Bulldog defenders that had fun in the backfield. Montez Sweat recorded his fourth sack of the season and 25th of his career for the Washington Commanders. He ranks second in the NFL with 20 quarterback hits in 2022.
Rookie first-round pick Charles Cross did his job during Seattle's battle with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Munich, Germany. Cross played every offensive snap at left tackle for the Seahawks, receiving a season-high overall offensive guard of 81. He also posted a personal-best 84.4 pass blocking grade and a 74.5 run blocking grade.
Elgton Jenkins also played every offensive snap on Green Bay's offensive line during their comeback win over the Dallas Cowboys in overtime.
In that same game, Cowboys' quarterback Dak Prescott completed 27 of 46 passes for 265 yards and three touchdowns. In the process, Prescott passed Dallas legend Roger Staubach for the third-most passing yards in Cowboys' history and now has 22,939 for his career.
Logan Cooke continues his solid season of punting for the Jaguars. He tied his season-long with a 63-yarder against the Chiefs that was fielded at the 7-yard line.
Defensive end Gerri Green made his NFL debut for the Chicago Bears, logging four snaps on defense after being elevated from the practice squad.
Speaking of debuts, safety Johnathan Abram played his first snaps for the Packers after being picked up off waivers from the Las Vegas Raiders last week. Fletcher Cox also posted a season-high seven tackles for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Running back Kylin Hill drew five special teams snaps for Green Bay during Week 10 but was released on Tuesday. Minnesota Vikings cornerback Cameron Danztler was also placed on injured reserve on Nov. 12.
