Forbes Selected As C Spire Conerly Trophy Finalist

STARKVILLE – Mississippi State cornerback Emmanuel Forbes has been selected as a finalist for the 2022 C Spire Conerly Trophy.

Forbes is joined by nine others in the running for the award, which is presented annually to the top college football player in the state of Mississippi.

Other finalists include Quinshon Judkins (Ole Miss), Jason Brownlee (Southern Miss), Jarveon Howard (Alcorn State), Connor Fordham (Belhaven), Patrick Shegog (Delta State), Shedeur Sanders (Jackson State), Moise Tezzo (Millsaps College), Marcus Williams (Mississippi College) and Ronnie Thomas (Mississippi Valley State).

Forbes, a semifinalist for both the Bednarik Award and Jim Thorpe Award, leads the Bulldogs with five interceptions through 10 games, which is tied for second-most in the nation and ranks second in MSU single-season history. Earlier this season, he tied the SEC record with his fifth career pick-six.

A junior from Grenada, Miss., Forbes has 13 career interceptions, which leads the nation since 2020 and is the most among active SEC players. Forbes 13 picks currently rank tied for first nationally among active players, while he is ranked fourth in MSU history in that category.

Additionally, Forbes leads the Bulldog defense with six pass breakups, while he has 28 total tackles on the campaign, including 16 solo stops.

Forbes and the Bulldogs return to action on Saturday, Nov. 19, when MSU hosts ETSU at 11 a.m. CT at Davis Wade Stadium.

MSU has won the Conerly Trophy nine times since the award debuted in 1996. Past winners have included J.J. Johnson (1998), Jerious Norwood (2005), Anthony Dixon (2009), Chris White (2010), Gabe Jackson (2013), Dak Prescott (2014 and 2015), Jeffery Simmons (2018) and Kylin Hill (2019).
