STARKVILLE – Mississippi State's defense displayed a dominating performance during its win over Texas A&M last Saturday and former Bulldog defenders on the NFL level followed suit the next day.
Denico Autry certainly made his presence felt for the Tennessee Titans. Autry recorded a pair of sacks against his former team the Indianapolis Colts, one of which was a strip sack. It was the ninth career contest the defensive end has made multiple sacks in the same game.
The sacks brought Autry's career total to 39.
Defensive tackles Fletcher Cox and Chris Jones each recovered a fumble for the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs respectively. Jones also received the Chiefs' top defensive grade by Pro Football Focus (PFF), posting an 84.9 overall score along with a team-best 77.5 grade against the run.
Washington Commanders defensive end Montez Sweat and Minnesota Vikings cornerback Cameron Dantzler both had a tackle for loss. Sweat had the Commanders' top run defense grade (77.6) and their second-highest overall defensive mark (81) while Dantzler led Minnesota with an 81.1 run defensive grade during his game against the New Orleans Saints in London.
Linebacker Preston Smith provided the Green Bay Packers with a half-sack, the 52nd of his career.
Defense wasn't the only area former MSU players excelled during Week 4. Offensive tackle Elgton Jenkins played all 73 offensive snaps for the Packers, helping them post a season-high 443 yards. Jenkins also earned the team's top run-blocking grade at 82.7.
Seattle starting offensive linemen Charles Cross and Gabe Jackson helped pave the way for the Seahawks to run for 235 yards and did not surrender a sack during their win 48-45 win over the Detroit Lions.
Jacksonville Jaguars' punter Logan Cooke booted a season-long 61-yarder and averaged 53.3 yards on three punts. J.T. Gray also had an impact on the Saints' special teams with three tackles.
