No. 3 Ranked Bulldogs Complete Day 1 of The Ally
October 17, 2022 | Women's Golf
West Point, Miss. – On Monday, the third-ranked women's golf team in all of the land carded the first 36 holes of their famed home tournament, The Ally. After the first two rounds of play, the Bulldogs are in third shooting 15-over par (591).
A very brisk fall morning set the stage for the first two rounds of play from Old Waverly Golf Club. The opening frame featured a spirited front-nine performance by Hannah Levi, who is competing in her final home event. Surrounded by the Maroon and White faithful around the 9th green, Levi sunk an eagle from distance to bring the crowd into a roar that could be heard from every tee box around Lake Waverly.
As a team, the Bulldogs shot even par in the second round. The second round featured the Bulldogs sinking their second eagle on the day courtesy of freshman Izzy Pellot on the second hole.
Throughout the first day, State used its instinctual comeback capabilities after falling down the scorecard to move up to third by the end of the second round. The Bulldogs were led by the top-15 performances of Abbey Daniel and Julia Lopez Ramirez. Daniel used an even-par (72) second round in which she sunk three birdies to finish tied for 12th with 4-over. Lopez Ramirez finished 1-over in the second round to finish 11th with 3-over par.
Ashley Gilliam carded 1-over (73) in the second round to finish tied for 19th with 6-over on the day, while Izzy Pellot carded her seventh round of par or better golf in the second round to finish tied for 24th. Pellot's 2-under par (70) second round moves her into sixth all-time for par or better rounds as a freshman in the Maroon and White.
Hannah Levi rounds out the scoring for the Bulldogs finishing tied for 34th with 9-over par.
Mississippi State will return to their home course on Tuesday's final round of The Ally 2022. The Bulldogs will be paired with fellow Magnolia State foe Ole Miss as well as SMU.

On the opening day of The Ally
"This morning hit us in the mouth a bit. We had a rough start to the first round. One thing that I tell this team is that certain circumstances are not going to rule who we are. If things do not go our way, how do we respond to that? I think that the team did a good job responding in the second round this afternoon. I think we left some shots out there still but did a great job of competing and battling back."
