STARKVILLE – For the first time ever, there will be a Week 18 in the NFL.
Most of Mississippi State's alumni, however, have already punched their tickets to the playoffs. Five players and three teams that have already qualified for the postseason will be in action on Saturday.
Willie Gay Jr., Chris Jones and the Kansas City Chiefs kickoff the final weekend of the regular season in the Mile High City against the Broncos at 3:30 p.m. Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys will battle the Philadelphia Eagles' defensive duo of Fletcher Cox and Darius Slay on Saturday evening at 7:15.
Preston Smith and the Green Bay Packers are also playoff bound and hit the road to Detroit for their final regular season contest at noon on Sunday. Meanwhile, Denico Autry, Jeffery Simmons and the AFC South Champion Tennessee Titans take on the Texans.
The only other Bulldog that remains in the playoff picture is K.J. Wright, whose Las Vegas Raiders are in a "win and you're in" game against the Chargers on Sunday night at 7:20.
Although there are no playoff implications, Benardrick McKinney and the New York Giants will play host to the Washington Football Team on Sunday at noon. That's also the same time that Cameron Dantzler and the Vikings welcome the Bears to Minnesota and Pernell McPhee and the Baltimore Ravens bring in the Steelers.
In mid-afternoon matchups on Sunday, Gabe Jackson and the Seattle Seahawks will visit Arizona while J.T. Gray and the New Orleans Saints travel to take on rival Atlanta. Both of those games are slated for a 3:25 p.m. kickoff on Fox.
The Saints added former MSU defensive tackle Braxton Hoyett back to their practice squad this week while the New York Jets released wide receiver Isaiah Zuber from theirs.
