Mississippi State is set to kickoff its 122nd season of football on Saturday at 3 p.m. against Louisiana Tech on ESPNU.
Here are a few notes to know before the battle of the Bulldogs.

- A total of 13 players on Mississippi State's 2021 roster played in a 45-3 home win over Louisiana Tech in 2018. Those players are Nathaniel Watson, Esaias Furdge, Jaylon Reed, Brad Cumbest, Tucker Day, Scott Goodman, Jaden Crumedy, Aaron Odom, C.J. Morgan, Landon Guidry, Jett Johnson, Kwatrivous Johnson and Austin Williams.
- A total of five Louisiana Tech players have seen action against Mississippi State while at previous schools. QB Luke Anthony (Abilene Christian), DB Elijah Hamilton (Vanderbilt), WR Bub Means (Tennessee), DB Myles Mason (Arkansas/ former MSU commitment) and RB Keyon Henry-Brooks (Vanderbilt). Anthony and Henry-Brooks both started games vs. MSU. LA Tech has a total of 19 total transfers on its roster.
- State nickelbacks coach Tony Hughes worked at Louisiana Tech from 2003-04. Hughes coached defensive backs in 2003 and outside linebackers in 2004 on Jack Bicknell Jr.'s staff.
- Mississippi State freshman running back Ketravion Hargrove is from Ruston, Louisiana and was committed to Louisiana Tech for two months during the summer of 2020.
- Mississippi State is 86-33-2 all-time in season openers and has won 10 of its last 13 opening games. Head coach Mike Leach owns a 13-6 record in season opening contests.
- MSU is 11-3 all-time on the field against Louisiana Tech and own a five-game winning streak in the series. State is also 10-2 at home against LA Tech. The visiting Bulldogs have not won in Starkville since 1996.
- Louisiana Tech returns 10 of its 11 defensive starters and has 15 of its top 16 tacklers coming back.
- LA Tech quarterback Austin Kendall, a former Oklahoma and West Virginia transfer, worked in pharmaceutical sales in Dallas, Texas for five months before returning to play football this fall.
- Louisiana Tech is 8-78-2 all-time against Southeastern Conference opponents.
