Bulldogs Complete Day One of Mason Rudolph Championship
September 24, 2021 | Women's Golf
Franklin, Tenn. – The Mississippi State women's golf team completed the first 18 holes of the 54-hole tournament on Friday. The Bulldogs rounded out the first day of competition 12-over par (300) and ended round one in 15th place. Â
"I thought on the front nine as a whole, we came out ready to play," head coach Charlie Ewing said. "We didn't execute some shots, but I thought we recovered pretty well. Hannah [Levi] came out and played well early and making the turn at 3-under par through nine holes. But then we had that stretch on holes 10 through 16 we gave up a lot of shots. Today just came down to execution. We had a good game plan, and everyone had the right mindset we just didn't hit the shots we needed to."
MSU was led by Hannah Levi who used a hot start to card three birdies on the front nine. Levi finished the first round 2-under (70) for the day and is tied for ninth.
Valeria Mendizabal and Blair Stockett both finished the day 4-over (76). Mendizabal parred 12 consecutive holes and finished tied for the most pars on the day with 14. Lauren Miller and Julia Lopez Ramirez both finished 6-over (78) after the first round.
Competing individually, freshman Elle Fox carded 4-over (76) in her collegiate debut.Â
Mississippi State will return to the course for round two of the Mason Rudolph Championship on Saturday. The 25th ranked Bulldogs will tee off between 9:55-10:35 a.m. accompanied by No. 20 Chattanooga and No. 6 Georgia.Â
