#FromStateToSundays: Week 2 Update
September 21, 2021 | Football
STARKVILLE – Week 2 of the NFL season is a wrap and it was another strong showing by former Mississippi State defensive linemen.
This week it was Denico Autry leading the charge, picking up 1.5 sacks and seven quarterback pressures in the Tennessee Titans' 33-30 overtime win at Seattle. Autry even split his second sack with fellow Bulldog Jeffery Simmons.
Montez Sweat enjoyed his time in the spotlight by collecting a sack in Washington's 30-29 victory against the Giants. It was the fourth consecutive game for Sweat to record a sack dating back to last season, which is the longest active streak in the NFL.
Sweat also has a string of 34 straight starts, which ranks the third among defensive ends in the league.
It was also a good week for safety Johnathan Abram as well. Abram was second on the Raiders with seven tackles on defense and another on special teams in their 26-17 victory over Pittsburgh.
Fellow defensive back Darius Slay provided lockdown coverage for the Eagles at cornerback. Slay surrendered only one catch for a 6-yard gain against San Francisco.
On the offensive side of the ball, quarterback Dak Prescott continued to dazzle in his return to Dallas. Prescott completed 23 of 27 passes for 237 yards and led the Cowboys on his 16th career game-winning drive in their 20-17 victory at the Chargers.
Prescott has the fifth-most game-winning drives among quarterbacks since he entered the NFL in 2016 and has the fourth-most in franchise history. He also tied the NFL record with 13 first downs during the first quarter against Los Angles and now sits atop the league in completions with 65 on the season.
Special teams also had a solid showcase as well in Week 2. Logan Cooke punted four times for a league-best 56.8-yard average for the Jaguars, including a 64-yarder that was the fourth-longest of his career.
Cooke now ranks second in the NFL averaging 52.4 yards per punt.
Kylin Hill also had an impact on special teams during Green Bay's 35-17 victory over the Lions on Monday Night Football. Hill returned a kickoff for 41 yards that setup a Packers touchdown just before halftime.
