Adaloglou, Cirotte Take Down Eighth-Ranked Doubles Team

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Mississippi State women's tennis started its fall season with a bang on Friday with a top 10 upset in doubles action on the opening day of the Debbie Southern Fall Classic hosted by Furman.
The Bulldogs' No. 43 doubles duo of Magda Adaloglou and Chloé Cirotte defeated the eight-ranked Wake Forest tandem of Brooke Killingsworth and Anna Brylin, 6-3. It was just the third time that Adaloglou and Cirotte had teamed together in doubles action and only the second time they have completed a match.
Adaloglou and Cirotte did drop their second-round matchup against Kylie Bilchev/ Ava Hrastar of Georgia Tech, 6-4.
After dropping their first match of the morning, Alexandra Mikhailuk and Marta Falceto bounced back in the second to top the Furman tandem of Jess Dawson and Ellie Schoppe 7-6.
MSU's other ranked doubles team No. 41 Emmanouela Antonaki and Tamara Racine were not as fortunate, losing 6-2 to the Duke duo of Chloe Beck and Ellie Coleman and 6-3 to South Carolina's Megan Davies and Allie Gretkowski.
The Bulldogs also picked up a pair of singles wins as well. Cirotte added to her huge day by defeating Kacie Harvey of North Carolina 6-4, 6-1 in Flight 6 while Falceto knocked off Clemson's Alexandra Antilla 6-2, 6-1 in Flight 10 for State's fourth win of the day.
Twelve of the 13 teams competing in this weekend's tournament ended last season ranked among the top 50 in the ITA collegiate rankings: Texas (1), North Carolina (2), Florida State (7), Duke (8), Georgia Tech (10), Ohio State (12), Tennessee (18), South Carolina (26), Vanderbilt (29), Wake Forest (33), Furman (35), and Mississippi State (42). Clemson is the only invitee that did not finish among the top 50.Â
The tournament continues on Saturday with doubles play starting at 8:30 a.m. CT followed by a round of singles. The event concludes on Sunday with one round of singles play.
