Ricketts Unveils Fall Softball Schedule
September 17, 2021 | Softball
STARKVILLE – Following last year's late-season surge, Mississippi State softball is nearly ready to return to the diamond seeking to build even more momentum.
Head coach Samantha Ricketts revealed MSU's fall schedule on Friday. The Bulldogs are set to play seven games at Nusz Park, including three straight Fridays with MSU doubleheaders.
The fall slate begins on Friday, Sept. 24, when the Bulldogs face Southern Union at 4:30 p.m. CT, followed by a 7 p.m. tilt against Jones College. A week later, on Oct. 1, State hosts Wallace State Community College as well as Northwest Community College, which is coached by former Bulldog catching great Chelsea Bramlett. Bramlett played at State from 2007-10 and was a four-time All-American while also earning three national catcher of the year honors. State faces off with Bramlett's squad at 7 p.m., immediately after facing Wallace State at 4:30 p.m.
MSU plays two more games on Oct. 8. The Bulldogs square off against Central Alabama Community College at 4:30 p.m., then take on Itawamba Community College at 7 p.m. The Bulldogs then play their final fall game at Nusz Park on Wednesday, Oct. 13 at 5 p.m. against Meridian Community College.
Mississippi State's fall action comes on the heels of last year's 35-25 campaign that saw the Bulldogs reach an NCAA Regional for the fourth straight season and reach an NCAA Regional championship game for the third year in a row.
MSU closed the year with a 10-3 record over the season's final month, including five wins over NFCA-ranked opponents. Included in that red-hot run was a regular-season-closing, seven game Southeastern Conference winning streak – the second-longest SEC winning streak in school history.
