Mike Leach, Aaron Brule and Austin Williams set to preview 2021 season in Hoover on Wednesday.
STARKVILLE – It's football time.
With the start of training camp nearing, Mississippi State head coach Mike Leach, along with linebacker Aaron Brule and wide receiver Austin Williams, will all take to the podium at Southeastern Conference Media Days on Wednesday to preview the 2021 season. The Bulldogs are slated to appear in an afternoon session at the Hyatt Regency Birmingham - The Wynfrey Hotel in Hoover, Alabama.
For Leach, though he's entering his second season as head coach of the Bulldogs, he'll be experiencing SEC Media Days for the first time. The event wasn't held last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Leach will make his Media Days debut when he steps to the podium in the main room at 1:30 p.m. CT. Brule will follow Leach to the podium at 2:05 p.m. CT with Williams appearing at 2:20 p.m. CT. Coverage of Mississippi State's time in Hoover can be found throughout the afternoon on SEC Network.
Leach enters the 2021 season among the winningest active coaches in all of college football. He sports a career record of 143-97 and last year, in his initial campaign at MSU, led the Bulldogs to a bowl game for the program's 11th straight postseason appearance overall.
Both Williams and Brule were huge pieces of Leach's first State squad and are expected to once again be leaders for the maroon and white in 2021.
Brule is MSU's top returning tackler. He had 77 last season with a team high 8.5 tackles for loss. Brule also had four sacks, the second most on the squad. Per Pro Football Focus, in 2020, Brule led all FBS linebackers in pass rush snaps (192), total pressures generated (39) and quarterback hurries (27).
Williams was among State's top passing targets a year ago. He finished with 43 receptions for 372 yards and three touchdowns. His three scores are tied for the most among MSU's returning pass catchers in 2021.
While SEC Media Days serves as a figurative kickoff to the upcoming season, the Bulldogs will begin the year in earnest on September 4 when State hosts Louisiana Tech.
