Ewing Wins Second Career LPGA Event

LAS VEGAS – Former Mississippi State golfer Ally Ewing won the second LPGA event of her career Sunday, bringing home the title for the inaugural Bank of Hope LPGA Match-Play at Shadow Creek.
After going to extra holes in the Round of 16 in the tournament, Ewing advanced to face Danielle Kang, the No. 6 women's golfer in the world, in the quarterfinals. The former All-American rebounded from an early two-hole deficit by recording five birdies on the back nine to advance.
On Sunday, Ewing was locked in and dominated her matches in the semifinals and finals, never trailing in her 33 holes played. She defeated Ariya Jutanugarn 3&2 in the semis before besting Sophia Popov 2&1 to win the title. In the finals match, Ewing sank a massive putt on from the green to go 2UP thru 14 holes to give her an insurmountable lead.
Ewing became the first MSU golfer to win an event on the LPGA Tour in October 2020, when she won the Drive On Championship. Along with her professional career, Ewing joined her husband on the State women's golf squad as a volunteer assistant coach this season.
During her time at Mississippi State, McDonald racked up five top-10 finishes and all but one of her finishes were in the top 25. As well as having two wins in a row at the Schooner Fall Classic and the Old Waverly Invite, she set the course and program record by shooting a 63 in the final round at the Schooner. She also led the program to the first NCAA Championship competition of any university in the state of Mississippi in 2014 only to go back in 2015.
In addition, she was recognized as an All-American, All-SEC player and set numerous program records. The Fulton, Mississippi, native began her rookie year on the LPGA Tour in 2016.
