DJ Jónsson Named Male Freshman of the Week by SEC

BIRMINGHAM – Mississippi State track and field's DJ Jónsson has garnered his first SEC Men's Freshman Athlete of the Week award after his javelin performance at the Pepsi Florida Relays, the Conference announced Tuesday.
In Gainesville, the Icelander threw to a new best at 77.25m, improving from his previous throw of 74.70m from the Bulldog Relays, and winning the event.
Going into the meet, he was No. 3 in the SEC and No. 5 in the NCAA. After his most recent mark, he is now No. 2 in the SEC and No. 3 in the NCAA.
His lifetime best is 78.30m, a mark he threw to at the Bottnarydskastet meet and that earned him the title of Icelandic U23 record holder.
Up next for Jónsson and the Bulldogs is the Crimson Tide Invitational in Tuscaloosa from April 8-10.
