STARKVILLE -Â Throughout the 2021 baseball season, HailState.com will catch up with baseball student-athletes to talk about the game, personal favorites and everything that makes them unique. This week, we catch up with third-year sophomore Luke Hancock.
Q: At what age did you fall in love with the game?
LH: "I fell in love with the game at a pretty early age, probably around three or four. My dad and I would throw and hit in the back yard, and I think that's where I fell in love with it."
Â
Q: What was your favorite Mississippi State baseball moment growing up as a fan?
LH: "I've always been a Mississippi State fan. I grew up 30 minutes from Starkville and having the chance to come to games whenever I had the chance was fun. My first memory was 2009 or 2010 when they played South Carolina in a doubleheader. I remember telling people I wanted to play at MSU when I got older after that."
Â
Q: How would your coaches and teammates describe you in one word? Why?
LH: "Trustworthy. I always do everything I can for the team. I am always on time and work hard."
Â
Q: Where do you see yourself in five years?
LH: "Hopefully playing baseball. It has been my dream since I was a kid to play professional baseball. I've always envisioned myself being able to accomplish that goal."
Q: What is your favorite sports movie?
LH: "Major League"
Â
Q: What is a hobby or interest that you have outside of baseball?
LH: "I love hunting and fishing. I think growing up in Mississippi you are raised to do that."
Â
Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world where would it be?
LH: "Japan. I don't know why, but I tell people all of the time that it's on my bucket list."
Â
Q: What is your favorite baseball stadium snack?
LH: "Nachos. Definitely Nachos."
Â
Q: What is some advice you would tell your younger self to get to where you are now?
LH: "Stay the course. Never take this game for granted. Be a good person and do everything you can for your family. Just go about your life in a way that your parents and grandparents are proud to call you theirs."
