Bulldog Trio Dominated First Round At SEC Championship

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Mississippi State women's golf posted a strong first round at SEC Championship, recording a team score of 275 to sit in third and three Bulldogs placing in the top five at Greystone Golf & Country Club.

State's team score of 13-under par was tied for the second-lowest round in program history and marked the best opening round ever for the Bulldogs. As a team, MSU birdied on 15 of the 18 holes on the day, and multiple golfers birdied on the same hole seven times.

The Bulldogs were paced by the strong play of Abbey Daniel, Hannah Levi and Blair Stockett, as the trio fired off 5-under par rounds, tying for the 10th-lowest scores in school history. The incredible performance marked the first time ever that three different Bulldogs shot 5-under par in the same tournament.

For Daniel, this matched her career best single-round score and improved her team-leading rounds of par or better to nine for the season. For Levi and Stockett, it was the second-lowest individual scores of their career but was their highest first-round scores. Stockett now owns six rounds in the 60s all time, which moved her into a tie for fifth place in program history with Ashley Gilliam.

Gilliam shot 2-over par (74), rolling in three birdies, to tie for 50th place heading in to the second round, while graduate Clara Moyano rounded out the squad with a score of 76 following the first day of stroke play.

State will return to the course for the second round at 9:40 a.m. on Thursday, April 15, teeing off on Hole one, accompanied by South Carolina and LSU.
