T&F to Compete in Pepsi Florida Relays

After a successful home meet, the Bulldogs are set to compete at Florida.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Mississippi State track and field squad has traveled to Florida to compete in the Gator's 2021 Pepsi Florida Relays on the Percy Beard Track in James G. Pressly Stadium on April 2-3.

It's a Power Five-stacked meet, with 13 participants including Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Iowa State, Kentucky, Miami, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Southern California, and Virginia Tech.

On Friday, April 3, the Bulldogs will participate in the women's discus, men's hammer and shot put, both long jumps and javelin competitions, and the women's pole vault on the field side. On the track, the men will take part in the 1500m and 5000m, while the women take on the 3000m steeplechase. Both the men and women will compete in the 200m and the 400m hurdles.

Saturday's field competition will begin with the men's discus and women's hammer, then move into the women's shot put and both triple jumps as well as the women's high jump in the afternoon. A packed day on the track will begin with the 100m and 110m hurdles prelims, then the 4x100m relays. Both sides will compete in the 800m, 400m and 100m races, in that order, before the men's 3000m. The day will end for both the men and the women with the 4x400m relays.

The Bulldogs go into the second meet of the outdoor season after successfully hosting the Al Schmidt Bulldog Relays the previous weekend. Overall, there were eight wins for the Bulldogs. Sindri Guðmundsson and Sarah Blake both won in the javelin, Amy Warren in the triple jump, the men's 4x100m and 4x800m relays, Shayla Broughton in the 100m hurdles, and Asia Poe in the high jump.

To start out the second week of competition, the Bulldog men are ranked 14th by the USTFCCCA. In addition, Guðmundsson was named Male Field Athlete of the Week by the SEC on Tuesday, March 29.Â

There are multiple Mississippi State student-athletes who are ranked in the top-25 of both the NCAA and the SEC after the first week of competition. Those are listed below.
