Bulldogs Set To Compete In Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic For Second Time
March 18, 2021 | Women's Golf
ATHENS, Ga. – For the second time this season, Mississippi State women's golf will travel to UGA Golf Course to compete in the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic, beginning Friday, March 19.
"It's really great to be back at the Liz Murphey for the second time this season," MSU head coach Charlie Ewing said. "Hannah [Levi] obviously has a lot to be excited about returning to a place that she has so much individual success at. Blair [Stockett] and Clara [Moyano] also performed very well here in the fall. I feel this group is confident and we are working on building some momentum at this point in the season. This group has tasted success here, so the belief is strong and that's always a good place to be."
At the fall edition of the event, Hannah Levi claimed the first individual title of her career after shooting a 3-under 213 to pace the Bulldogs to a sixth-place finish. Her second-round score of 6-under 66 tied the fourth-lowest round in school history.
The three-day, 54-hole event will take place from March 19-21. State will be competing on the UGA Golf Course, a par-72, 6,302-yard course.
Made up of 14 SEC squads and three other teams, the loaded field consists of 10 top-25 squads and three teams ranked inside the top 10. State is joined by No. 19 Alabama, No. 12 Auburn, No. 15 Arkansas, Charleston, No. 22 Florida, No. 13 Georgia, Kentucky, No. 24 Louisville, No. 4 LSU, No. 6 Ole Miss, Missouri, No. 3 South Carolina, No. 11 USC, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Vanderbilt.
Approximately 28 golfers in the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic field, including Ashley Gilliam, have been invited to the Augusta National Women's Amateur. The prestigious event will take place at the Champions Retreat Golf Club, beginning March 31 until April 3 (one week before The Masters).
Leading the Bulldogs is senior Blair Stockett, who recorded her highest finish of the season in a tie for 10th place at the Gamecock Intercollegiate. Abbey Daniel is second in the lineup. She was not far behind Stockett in the last event, earn a top-15 finish. So far this spring, Daniel has recorded five rounds of par or better in three events to lead the Bulldogs.
Redshirt sophomore Hannah Levi will take the third spot followed by sophomore Ashley Gilliam in the fourth spot, and graduate Clara Moyano will round things out for Mississippi State.
