Women’s Golf Travels to Florida to Compete in Gators Invitational

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Five Bulldogs are heading back to Florida, as Mississippi State women's golf competes in its second event of the spring season. The team will venture to Gainesville, Florida, for the annual Gators Invitational beginning Sunday.
The three-day, 54-hole event will take place from Sunday, Feb. 21, through Tuesday, Feb. 23. State will be competing on the Mark Bostick Golf Course, a par-70, 6,002 yard course.
The 14 teams will play one round each day from Sunday through Tuesday. The field consists of host Florida along with Ole Miss, Georgia, UCF, Miami, Alabama, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Maryland, Kentucky, MSU, Penn State, Ohio State and Campbell.
"We are very excited about being able able to get back on the road again to compete and represent Mississippi State University," head coach Charlie Ewing said. "Obviously, the SEC hosted events this spring provide very strong fields and that's always exciting for any team getting to compete in them. I've grown to really love this golf course from my years as a player and in coaching because of how it challenges the golfers in so many different ways. This course requires a well thought out game plan in order to score well, so that's exactly what our goal is this week as a team. We know that with discipline and patience, we will have every opportunity to be successful."
Leading the Bulldogs, sophomore Ashley Gilliam is going into the event with a Top-150 World Amateur Golf Ranking (145). After leading State at the UCF Challenge, redshirt sophomore Hannah Levi has secured the second position in the lineup.
Senior Blair Stockett holds the third position in the lineup, followed by sophomore Abbey Daniel, who has competed in every event of the 2020-2021 season. Rounding things out in the fifth position for the Bulldogs lineup, freshman Jarutrawee Khotchagrai will make her collegiate debut at the Gators Invitational on Sunday.
Sunday's opening round begins at 8:30 a.m., while State will tee off at 9:40 a.m. on Hole 10. The Bulldogs begin play accompanied by Campbell and the individuals.
