The Snowman Tournament To Begin Sunday Following Winter Weather

The tournament will now be played on Sunday and Monday beginning at 9 a.m. CT both days.
STARKVILLE – Due to travel complications caused by winter weather in the area, Mississippi State will postpone the start of the annual Snowman: Alex Wilcox Memorial tournament. Originally scheduled to begin on Friday, Feb. 19, the five-team round-robin will now begin on Sunday, Feb. 21.
The schedule for the tournament has been modified, and the full schedule can be found below. MSU will now play each team once, for a total of four games over the two days. SEC Network+ will broadcast games featuring MSU at 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. CT on Sunday and Monday.
The Bulldogs (2-0) are ranked No. 16 in the latest D1Softball.com and Softball America polls. State is No. 22 in the NFCA Coaches' Poll and No. 24 in the ESPN/USA Softball poll.
Mississippi State rebranded the annual February Freezer tournament as The Snowman in 2019 to honor the late Alex Wilcox. The Bulldogs continue to wear teal uniforms throughout the season to raise awareness for ovarian cancer in honor of the former softball student-athlete who passed away in 2018 at the age of 18 after a courageous fight with the disease.
Dubbed the "Snowman" by her teammates and family, Wilcox's No. 8 jersey was retired in a special halftime ceremony during an MSU football game on Sept. 15, 2018. She is the only female student-athlete in Mississippi State history to have her jersey retired.
Three of the five teams playing in the tournament will enter on winning streaks of 10 games or longer. The Bulldogs have won 16 straight, which is tied for the school record and the longest active streak in the country. Stephen F. Austin has won 13 consecutive contests, while Southern Illinois has run its streak to 12 victories.
