Davidson Chosen As Senior CLASS Award Candidate
February 18, 2021 | Softball
STARKVILLE – All-American Mia Davidson has been selected as one of 30 candidates for the 2021 Senior CLASS Award. She is one of three SEC student-athletes to be chosen as candidates.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
One of the most-feared hitters in the country, Davidson ranks third among active players with 53 career home runs. She is also among the top 15 active career leaders in slugging percentage (.788, 2nd), total bases (356, 9th), runs (132, 13th) and RBIs (134, 13th).
The Hillsborough, North Carolina, native holds the MSU career, single-season and freshman home run records and needs just 15 home runs to pass Rafael Palmeiro for the most ever by a Bulldog baseball or softball student-athlete. Her single-season record also stands as the SEC single-season record.
In 2019, she was an NFCA Third Team All-American and a Top 10 Finalist for USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year. In 2018, She was a Top 10 Finalist for NFCA National Freshman of the Year. She has made the All-SEC First Team each year and started all but one of MSU's games since she arrived on campus.
She entered the season among MSU's top 10 in career on-base percentage, batting average, putouts, RBIs, total bases and runs scored and with sole possession of the MSU record for career slugging percentage (.787).
To be eligible for the Senior CLASS Award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
Davidson has compiled a 3.33 cumulative GPA while majoring in kinesiology and has been named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll every year. She has been a leading voice in MSU's No One Fights Alone campaign to raise ovarian cancer awareness, participating in the team's 4:28 Wall Sit Challenge and using her social media platform to recognize other participants around the country.
The 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists in March, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.
The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2021 Women's College World Series in June.
