Mississippi State’s left tackle keeps adding on to his already-impressive resume
STARKVILLE – Charles Cross keeps adding on to his already-impressive resume. The latest addition came on Wednesday as Mississippi State's starting left tackle was selected to ESPN's All-America team.
It's the third postseason accolade for Cross this week alone. He was chosen First Team All-Southeastern Conference by both league coaches and the Associated Press earlier in the week.
It all follows a standout 2021 campaign by the sophomore. The Laurel, Miss., native started all 12 games for the Bulldogs this year, surrendering only two sacks in 919 snaps. He received an 86.7 overall blocking grade from Pro Football Focus, which was the second-highest grade in the conference by an offensive tackle.
With Cross protecting his blind side, MSU quarterback Will Rogers was able to pass for an SEC-leading 4,449 yards in the regular season. In 682 pass blocks – the second-most in the FBS – Cross allowed only five pressures.
In addition to his recent honors, Cross was tabbed as the SEC's Offensive Lineman of the Week twice over the course of the season. He also won the Kent Hull Trophy, which is presented annually to the top collegiate offensive lineman in the state of Mississippi.
