Rogers A Finalist For The Manning Award
December 03, 2021 | Football
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State sophomore quarterback Will Rogers was selected as one of 10 finalists for the Manning Award on Friday.
The Manning Award is presented annually to the nation's top signal caller and is the only award that takes into account a quarterback's performance in bowl games. Other finalists include Brennan Armstrong (Virginia), Matt Corral (Ole Miss), Sam Hartman (Wake Forest), Kenny Pickett (Pittsburgh), Desmond Ridder (Cincinnati), Carson Young (Nevada), C.J. Stroud (Ohio State), Bryce Young (Alabama) and Bailey Zappe (Western Kentucky).
Rogers leads all of the finalists in completions and completion percentage and ranks second in passing yardage. The Brandon, Mississippi native has connected on 473 of 630 throws (75.1 percent) for a single-season school record 4,449 yards and 35 touchdowns.
Rogers is one of three sophomores up for the honor and one of three representatives from the Southeastern Conference. He leads the SEC averaging 370.9 yards passing per game and threw for 550 more yards than any other signal caller in the league.
The winner of the Manning Award will be announced after all of the bowl games conclude in January. Alabama's Mac Jones claimed the honor last season.
