Cross Selected First Team All-American By Sporting News
December 14, 2021 | Football
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State sophomore offensive tackle Charles Cross was announced as a first team All-American by The Sporting News on Tuesday.
Â
It is the third All-America honor for Cross this postseason. He was named to ESPN's All-American team last week and also garnered third team All-America recognition by Pro Football Focus (PFF) on Monday.
Â
It has been an eventful postseason for Cross. The 6-foot-5, 310-pounder also received recognition as an All-SEC first teamer from PFF, the Associated Press and the league's coaches and won the Hull Trophy, which is presented annually to the top collegiate offensive lineman in Mississippi.
Â
Cross started all 12 games at left tackle for the Bulldogs this season. The Laurel, Mississippi native earned an 86.7 blocking grade from PFF and only surrendered two sacks in 919 snaps.
Â
Cross is the first MSU player to be named a first team All-American by The Sporting News since defensive end Montez Sweat in 2018. He was the first Bulldog offensive lineman to be tabbed as an All-American by the publication since Eric Allen and Randy Thomas were selected as second teamers in 1998.
