#FromStateToSundays: Week 10 Update
November 16, 2021 | Football
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State's defensive contingent on the Philadelphia Eagles made a strong showing during Week 10.
Darius Slay recovered a fumble and returned it 83 yards for a touchdown, the second time he has scooped and scored this season. Slay is just the fourth player in franchise history to have two fumbles recovered for touchdowns in the same year.
It was the fourth takeaway of the season for Slay and his third career touchdown.
Slay also added a tackle for loss as did Eagles' teammate Fletcher Cox. Cox posted Philadelphia highest pass rush grade (84.8) according to Pro Football Focus (PFF) in their 30-13 win over the Denver Broncos.
Cox and Slay were far from the only former Bulldogs to shine defensively last week. Jeffery Simmons recorded a pair of sacks and two tackles for loss in the Titans win over New Orleans. Simmons has five sacks over his past two outings and a career-best 7.5 for the season.
Simmons pushed his career sack total to 12.5 and had Tennessee's highest overall defensive grade (85.5) according to PFF.
Johnathan Abram finished second on the Raiders with 10 tackles while in the same game, Chris Jones scored the Chiefs highest defensive grade (90.3).
Preston Smith added a sack and 10 pressures in the Packers' win over Seattle. Smith's pressures were the second-most in the NFL last week.
Elgton Jenkins also had a solid game on the other side of the ball for Green Bay. Jenkins started at left tackle and played every snap, grading out as the game's highest pass blocker at 87.9.
Sticking with offense, Dak Prescott had a bounce back performance for Dallas. Prescott completed 24 of 31 passes for 296 yards and two touchdowns and also added a 4-yard scoring scamper as well. Prescott helped lead the Cowboys to a 43-3 win over Atlanta, their first 40-point victory since 2000.
Logan Cooke was a busy man on Sunday, punting seven times in Jacksonville's loss to the Colts. Cooke did however pin three of his punts inside the 10-yard line.
