November 15, 2021 | Women's Tennis
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State women's tennis continues building towards the future and did so Monday by signing one of Canada's best and brightest prospects.
Â
Dharani Niroshan inked her national letter of intent with the Bulldogs for the class of 2022 and will arrive on campus next fall.
Â
"Dharani is one of the best junior tennis players in Canada," said associate head coach Sachin Kirtane. "She's had a great junior career. We're very excited about the prospect of her joining our team. She's a very good fit for us with her character and work ethic."
Â
Niroshan is a three-time Canadian Nationals doubles champion and currently holds an ITF ranking of 895. The 17-year old from Toronto holds a career-best ITF ranking of 616 and is currently rated the No. 34 women's tennis player north of the border.
Â
Niroshan took an official visit to MSU in early September and was in attendance for the N.C. State football game.
Â
"I know that she had a lot of good choices," Kirtane said. "She really liked Starkville and the team. We're very excited about her potential as a player. We're looking forward to having her on the team starting in the fall."
Â
Niroshan is the first member of the 2022 class to sign with the Bulldogs. State inked Italian Alessia Tagliente in September and will be joining the team for the spring season.
