Rogers Tabbed Manning Award Star Of The Week
November 15, 2021 | Football
STARKVILLE – The honors continue to roll in for Mississippi State quarterback Will Rogers.
Â
Rogers was selected as one of the Manning Award Stars of the Week on Monday following his record-setting rally at Auburn. Rogers guided the Bulldogs back from a 25-point deficit (largest comeback in school history) and scored 40 unanswered points in a 43-34 victory.
Â
The 6-foot-1, 210-pounder was also named the National Offensive Player of the Week by the Walter Camp Football Foundation and Athlon Sports as well as the Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Week. He was also named as a finalist for the Conerly Trophy as well.
Â
Rogers completed 44 of 55 passes for 415 yards and a single-game school record six touchdowns. The sophomore from Brandon, Mississippi threw five of his TDs in a second half in which MSU outscored the Tigers 33-6 to become bowl eligible.
Â
Rogers completed passes to 10 different receivers in the contest and only threw three incompletions in the final three quarters. He became the first signal caller in the Southeastern Conference since 2000 to throw for 400 yards, six touchdowns and no interceptions while completing 80 percent of his passes.
Â
It was the eighth consecutive game in which Rogers has thrown for 300 yards, which is the longest such streak in the country. He also leads the nation in completion percentage and tops all Power 5 quarterbacks in passing yardage.
Â
Joining Rogers as one of the eight Manning Stars of the Week are Malik Cunningham (Louisville), Jalon Daniels (Kansas), Dequan Finn (Toledo), Phil Jurkovec (Boston College), Donovan Smith (Texas Tech), C.J. Stroud (Ohio State) and Bailey Zappe (Western Kentucky).
Â
Fans can now go to the Allstate Sugar Bowl Facebook page to vote for what they think was the best performance from this past weekend. When voting closes on Thursday at 11 a.m. CT, the top vote-getter will be announced as the Manning Award Quarterback of the Week.
