Rogers Named Walter Camp Offensive Player Of The Week
November 14, 2021 | Football
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State quarterback Will Rogers was selected as the Walter Camp Football Foundation FBS Offensive Player of the Week on Sunday following his record-setting performance at Auburn.
Â
Down 28-3 in the second quarter, Rogers guided the Bulldogs to the largest comeback in school history by scoring 40 unanswered points in a 43-34 victory against the then 17th-ranked Tigers.
Â
But the rally was not the only record the sophomore from Brandon, Mississippi set. Rogers broke the school's single-game mark with six touchdown passes to go along with 415 yards through the air. He completed 44 of 55 passes to 10 different receivers with no interceptions.
Â
It was the fourth time Rogers has thrown for over 400 yards this season and has exceeded 300 yards passing in eight consecutive contests. He needs just 72 more yards to break Dak Prescott's single-season passing record set in 2015.
Â
Rogers' 29 touchdown passes this year puts him in a tie with Prescott for the most in a single season in MSU history.
Â
The 6-foot-2, 210-pounder is the fourth Bulldog to earn National Player of the Week honors by the Walter Camp Football Foundation and first since K.J. Costello on Sept. 27, 2020.
