Broska, Malesevic Conclude Play At ITA All-American
October 07, 2021 | Men's Tennis
TULSA, Okla., - Mississippi State's highest ranked singles competitors concluded play at the ITA All-American on Thursday.
No. 27 Florian Broska fell to sixth-ranked Johannus Monday of Tennessee 6-1, 7-6(5) in the second round of the main draw.
"Flo competed well and did a lot of good things against another big server today," said MSU assistant coach Jake Jacoby. "Both guys brought a high level to the court. The second set in particular was some really good tennis and Flo was a bit unlucky not to have that fall his way."
No. 36 Nemanja Malesevic had to withdraw from his consolation match on Thursday against 39th-ranked Raphael Lambling of South Carolina.
Broska went 1-1 at the event while Malesevic was 0-1 in the lone match he competed in. Broska earned a straight set win over UCF's Trey Hilderbrand 6-1, 6-3 on Wednesday while Malesevic fell 7-6(2), 6-4 to 13th-ranked Gabriel Diallo of Kentucky.
"Overall, Flo and Memo both learned a lot about what it takes to succeed on this stage and they both see they belong with the best of the best in college tennis right now," Jacoby said.
Broska and Malesevic will return to Starkville to begin preparations for the ITA Southern Regionals in Auburn, Ala., on Oct. 14-18.
