
State Finishes Fighting Irish Classic at Eighth Place

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Ford Clegg led Mississippi State with a top-20 finish to help the Bulldogs to an eighth-place showing at the Fighting Irish Classic. Mississippi State wrapped up their time at Warren Golf Course with a team score of 11-over 851.Â

Clegg knocked in 12 birdies over the course of three rounds. He played steady golf for the final two rounds, shooting turkeys in each of the final two rounds. He birdied the No. 17 tee in all three rounds. Clegg completed the tournament at a score of 210, tied for 15th at even-par.Â

"It was not my best week, but I was able to manage it," Clegg said. "I'm looking forward to cleaning up my game this week for SEC Match Play on Sunday."

Overall, the Bulldogs fired 42 birdies with 15 coming in Round 3. State shot 285 for the final round at Notre Dame's course. Â

"Our team showed a lot of fight this week," assistant coach Steven Paine said. "We got off to another slow start today but managed to finish the round off strong once again. We'll take away a lot of positives from this event and continue to build for the rest of the season."

Loïc Ettlin came back from a tough first round to shoot seven birdies overall and ended his time at Warren Golf Course in a tie for 30th at 4-over. Jay Nimmo finished at 5-over for the tournament. Hunter Logan completed the tournament with an overall score of 217, while Ben Nelson shot a 220 this week.Â

Playing as an individual, Austin Vukovits rounded out the competition with a score of 220 for the tournament.Â
Â
Compared to their performance in the 2019 edition of the Fighting Irish Classic, the Bulldogs  improved in the first two rounds shooting 11-under and 5-under what they posted in the previous tournament.Â

Mississippi State will continue its fall season with a quick turnaround next week. The Bulldogs will travel to Birmingham, Alabama, to compete in SEC Match Play on October 10-12.Â
