Leilua, Davidson Named To Preseason Top 100

STARKVILLE – Mississippi State's power-hitting duo of Fa Leilua and Mia Davidson have been named to Softball America's Preseason Top 100 Players list.
Leilua was tabbed the No. 40 player in the nation, while Davidson checks in at No. 64. The Bulldogs are one of five programs in the Southeastern Conference that can boast multiple student-athletes among the top 75 on the list.
Both Davidson and Leilua were named All-Americans following the 2019 season, and both made Softball America's Preseason Top 100 last spring before the season was cut short by COVID-19. The pair were named Preseason All-Americans and earned spots on USA Softball's Collegiate Player of the Year Watch List entering 2020.
Leilua led State's regular starters with a .384 batting average in the shortened season with a team-best 33 hits and 28 RBI over the 28-game slate. She was tied for third in the SEC in home runs (9) and total bases (68).
She hit 22 home runs in 2019, second in MSU history, and boasts 50 long balls in her career, with 31 coming in the Maroon and White. For her career, she has posted a .341 average and .711 slugging percentage with 145 RBI.
The Hawthorne, California, native ranks 10th among active players in homers, No. 19 in RBI, No. 24 in total bases (349) and No. 18 in games played (201).
Davidson is the Bulldogs' career leader in home runs with 52, and her .787 career slugging percentage entering the year ranks first in MSU history. She holds two of the top three single-season home run totals in program history and two of the top six slugging percentage marks. Davidson is a career .363 hitter.
The Hillsborough, North Carolina, native finished the 2020 season at No. 8 on the NCAA's active career leaders chart in home runs and slugging percentage and No. 21 in total bases (351). Behind the plate, she caught five runners stealing in 2020, which was tied for third in the SEC.
