Mississippi State will be tied for the second-most players on active rosters in the AFC and NFC Championship games on Sunday
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State will be tied for the second-most players on active rosters in the AFC and NFC Championship games on Sunday. The Bulldogs boast seven such players, trailing only Iowa (9), and could see all seven reach Super Bowl LV.
MSU is represented by Hunter Bradley (LS), Elgton Jenkings (OG), Will Redmond (S) and Preston Smith (LB) on the Green Bay Packers and Chris Jones (DT), Willie Gay Jr. (LB) and Martinas Rankin (OT) on the Kansas City Chiefs.
If the Packers win the NFC title, and the Chiefs win the AFC title, the Bulldogs will be tied with Michigan for the most players on a Super Bowl active roster. It would also mark MSU's highest total of Super Bowl participants in a single year, breaking the previous record of four in Super Bowl XXV (1991).
State has seen at least one player compete for the Lombardi Trophy in 11 of the last 13 seasons with 14 former Bulldogs winning a ring in that span.
The Packers kick off the NFC Championship at 2:05 p.m. CT, hosting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on FOX. Kansas City hosts the Buffalo Bills for the AFC title at 5:40 p.m. on CBS and ESPN. Gay has been ruled out for the Chiefs with an ankle injury, and Redmond was limited in practice this week for Green Bay by a knee injury.
