MSU Men’s Tennis Collects Third Straight 7-0 Victory With Win Over Ragin’ Cajuns

STARKVILLE – It was another chilly evening at home, but the Mississippi State men's tennis team (3-0) brought the heat with some aggressive hitting to blank visiting Louisiana (0-4) 7-0 indoors at the Rula Tennis Pavilion to continue the Bulldogs' hot start to the 2021 campaign.
With the victory, State claimed is seventh victory in a row over the Ragin' Cajuns, and has now captured 15 of the last 16 meetings in the series.
State got out to an aggressive start in doubles Friday as the 47th-ranked Bulldog duo of Alberto Colas and Gregor Ramskogler dominated over Alejandro Sanchez Gonzalez and Oriol Fillat Gimenez 6-2 on court 2. On court 3, the young duo of Nemaja Malesevic and Davide Tortora overpowered Louisiana's Ivailo Keremedchiev and Alejo Ferrer Gimenez 6-2. On court 1, the 28th-ranked Bulldog duo of Florian Broska and Nicolas Ocana would have their match suspended at 3-3 against Xandy Hammitt and Karlo Kajin.
The Bulldogs carried their aggressive hitting into singles, winning all courts in straight sets. State's Tortora made quick work of Hammitt, downing the Ragin Cajun 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6.
The remaining five courts would finish almost simultaneously as State completed its shutout of the Ragin' Cajuns.
On court 2, Malesevic would show dominance as he ousted Kajin 6-1, 6-4. Finishing immediately after would be State's Ramskogler on court 5, defeating Chueca 6-3, 6-2. Following right behind would be court 3 where Colas was firing forehand shots to win 6-3, 6-3 over Louisiana's Gonzalez.
Next up would be State's 87th-ranked Broska on court 1, where the Bulldog veteran ousted Keremedchiev 6-4, 6-2. Wrapping up play would be Hernandez, as the Bulldog true freshman took down Gimenez 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 4 spot.
Next upon on the slate, the Bulldogs will welcome Middle Tennessee to Starkville on Friday, January 29 (the match vs. the Blue Raiders was originally scheduled for Jan. 24) at 1 p.m. CT. The match will the be the first part of a doubleheader with State's women's squad, which hosts Memphis at 4 p.m. that day.
