#FromStateToSundays: Divisional Round Preview
January 16, 2021 | Football
STARKVILLE – Mississippi State will be represented in every NFL Divisional Round game this weekend. Bulldog fans will be cheering for the Green Bay Packers and Baltimore Ravens on Saturday and the Kansas City Chiefs and New Orleans Saints on Sunday.
The top seed in the NFC, the Packers will host the Los Angeles Rams at 3:35 p.m. CT on FOX. Green Bay boasts four former Bulldogs on the active roster, the most of any team in the league. Preston Smith and Will Redmond anchor the defense, while Pro Bowler Elgton Jenkins has proven himself as one of the most-versatile offensive linemen in the NFL. Hunter Bradley has served as Green Bay's long snapper for all punts and field goals this year.
Pernell McPhee led the Ravens in tackles in their Wild Card matchup and will face one of the top offenses in the NFL on Saturday. Kickoff against the Buffalo Bills is set for 7:15 p.m. on NBC. Tyre Phillips will play on the offensive line, paving the way for one of the top rushing attacks in the league this year.
On Sunday, the defending champion Chiefs begin their run to a second straight Super Bowl appearance. Kansas City will host the Cleveland Browns at 2:05 p.m. on CBS. Five former Bulldogs are in the Chiefs organization with three on the active roster. Martinas Rankin has returned to play on the offensive line this year, and Chris Jones led the team with 7.5 sacks in 2020. Linebacker Willie Gay Jr. is expected to miss the game.
J.T. Gray rounds out the weekend with the Saints at 5:40 p.m. on FOX. New Orleans will host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Divisional Round.
