Molinar Nabs SEC Player of the Week Honors

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – After ripping off a pair of 20-point performances, Iverson Molinar garnered the SEC's Player of the Week announced Monday by the conference office.
Mississippi State has claimed at least one SEC Player of the Week award during all six seasons with Ben Howland as head coach. It's the first career SEC weekly honor for Molinar.
Molinar worked his way to 22.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game as the Bulldogs knocked off No. 13 Missouri (78-63 on 01/05) and Vanderbilt (84-81 on 01/09) last week to improve to 3-1 in SEC action, the program's best league start since 2016-17. He amassed 30 of his 44 points during the second half on the week.
Molinar equaled a career-high with 24 points coupled with career-bests eight rebounds and four steals at Vanderbilt. He and D.J. Stewart Jr. are two of four SEC players on the season to pile up double figures in every one of their team's games in 2020-21.
At one stretch of the second half, the Molinar-Stewart Jr. duo scored 24 straight points as Mississippi State turned a 14-point deficit into a 15-point victory over Missouri. The 15-point win over the Tigers was the program's second-highest margin of victory over a top 15 opponent and the fifth-best margin of victory over a ranked foe.
The last time MSU had two players score 20-plus points against a ranked opponent was the Weatherspoon brothers, Quinndary and Nick, versus then No. 22 Arkansas in 2017-18.
