Pendley Posts Single-Game Scoring High on Monday Night

Bulldog graduate assistant delivers pair of sacrifices, Mauga climbs into 10th place on the leaderboard
CHICAGO – After a challenging first week playing with Athletes Unlimited, Nicole Pendley, Mississippi State softball's graduate assistant made some sacrifices in Week 2.
In a nationally-televised game facing Olympic legend Cat Osterman on Monday night, Pendley came off the bench to play six innings. She only had two at-bats, but both were productive. With the game tied, 1-1, in the top of the fourth she laid down a one-out sacrifice bunt to move the runner. When she came to the plate again in the seventh, this time trailing, 2-1, she again delivered a perfect bunt to put the tying run in scoring position.
Her efforts earned her 20 points, and her team won one inning on the night to give her 30 for the game. That marked her highest single-game point total in the young season.
Katiyana Mauga, State's volunteer assistant coach in 2020, ended the weekend on an 0-for-6 skid at the plate, but still managed to pick up 80 points on Monday afternoon in a 9-5 win against Team Hayward. On Sunday, she drew two walks in four plate appearances and totaled 30 points. Pendley did not play Sunday.
Mauga had the upper hand when the pair went head-to-head in the first game of the week on Saturday, with Team Ocasio defeating Team Show, 6-4. Mauga drove a single and walked while collecting 130 points. She finished the week in 10th place on the season leaderboard with 670 points.
Athletes Unlimited does not feature traditional teams. Instead, 56 athletes – 17 of whom played in the SEC –are drafted to one of four new teams each week. Following the final game of each week, the top four scoring athletes are named captains for the next week's draft.
Cat Osterman, Aleshia Ocasio, Janie Reed and DJ Sanders will serve as captains for Week 3 and draft a new set of teams on Tuesday night at 5 p.m. CT. The second week of games will be broadcast on ESPN2, ESPN3 and CBS Sports Network.
