Getting to know senior offensive lineman Dareuan Parker
STARKVILLE - Each week during the 2020 football season, HailState.com will catch up with one football student-athlete to talk about football, personal favorites and everything that makes them unique. This week, we catch up with senior offensive lineman Dareuan Parker.
Q: Best dancer on the team? Where do you rank?
DP: I'd say LaQuinston Sharp, but second would be Greg Eiland. I am not much of a dancer. It's not my specialty.
Q: How many other positions did you play in pee wee football?
DP: I didn't start playing football until my sophomore year of high school. So, I didn't get to experience pee wee football. I did play a basketball when I was younger for about seven years.
Q: What position did you play in basketball?
DP: I played center, but I started off as a shooting guard, though. But, then I started getting a little taller and putting on some weight, so they have to shift me into the big man role.
Q: Favorite pro sports team?
DP: The Pittsburgh Steelers. Growing up my mom and dad were diehard Steelers fans, so I was just following their lead.
Q: Most memorable game at Mississippi State?
DP: I would have to say the Egg Bowl last season. The whole game was great and winning it at home was a lot of fun.
Q: How did you decide that Mississippi State was where you wanted to play college football?
DP: First, I wanted to play close to home so that my mom, dad and grandma can come visit me and watch me play. Second, it felt like home when I came on my visit. Those two things were enough for me to choose Mississippi State.
Q: Do you have any hidden talents?
DP: I guess you could say people might not know I can play basketball. And, I like to cook. My favorite thing to cook is pasta. I like to add a little chicken or shrimp or sausage. I am thinking about making something with a little crab and shrimp to see how that turns out.
Q: Best part of being an offensive lineman?
DP: Getting your hands dirty and getting physical in the trenches. When you finish how you are supposed to and do your job, there is no better feeling.
Q: Why did you pick industrial technology as your major?
DP: I am more of a hand-on person, which is why I picked it. I also want to own my own business after football is over for me. I don't know exactly what that looks like right now, but I just didn't want to sit behind a desk.
