Anderson Tabbed SEC Defensive Player of the Week

The freshman netminder recorded six saves against the Crimson Tide.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Mississippi State soccer's Maddy Anderson has been named the Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Week, announced Monday (9/28) by the Conference.

Anderson, a freshman from Seabrook, Texas, played the full 110 minutes against Alabama on Sept. 25. It was her second game in a row playing all 110 minutes and her second career start in the Maroon and White. Anderson had six saves against the Tide and allowed only one goal. Alabama took 12 shots overall with seven on target.Â

"We are so proud for Maddy to receive this recognition," said head coach James Armstrong. "She is working incredibly hard with the goalkeeping staff in all aspects of her game. We believe she has been a leader in our back line in both games so far and has come up big when needed. There is a lot more to come from Maddy this season."

The Bulldogs will face rival Ole Miss on Oct. 2 in a 7 p.m. match under the Friday night lights. The game will be broadcast on ESPNU.Â
