Ruiz Recognized by the Lou Groza Award

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – After posting a perfect performance in his Mississippi State debut, junior kicker Brandon Ruiz was named one of the three "Stars of the Week" by the Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award on Monday.
The Tempe, Arizona, native went 3-for-3 on field goals, each of which gave the Bulldogs a lead, and converted all five of his PAT attempts. His game-high 14 points helped State to a 44-34 victory against defending National Champions, No. 6/5 LSU. Also handling kickoff duties, he pinned the Tigers for a touchback on eight of his nine kicks.
Ruiz put State on the scoreboard first Saturday, capping a 12-play, 66-yard drive with a 35-yard field goal near the end of the first quarter. In the third frame, he chipped one in from 24 yards to give MSU a 20-17 advantage. With the score even at 34-34 in the fourth quarter, he drilled a 43-yard field goal to give the Bulldogs the lead for good.
