Mauga, Pendley Close Week 4, Enter Final Week of Athletes Unlimited
September 22, 2020 | Softball
Mauga drafted by Team Warren; Pendley to play with Team Ocasio
CHICAGO – Nicole Pendley and Katiyana Mauga, two members of Mississippi State softball's 2020 staff, completed their fourth week of play in the Athletes Unlimited softball season this weekend.
With one weekend of play remaining, Mauga sits at No. 13 on the overall points leaderboard (1,220 points). She recorded 22 putouts in 21.0 innings of play this weekend.
Pendley was part of winning efforts on Saturday and Sunday and went 1-for-2 with a single and a walk in a Monday afternoon loss.
Athletes Unlimited does not feature traditional teams. Instead, 56 athletes – 17 of whom played in the SEC –are drafted to one of four new teams each week. Following the final game of each week, the top four scoring athletes are named captains for the next week's draft.
Cat Osterman, Jessica Warren, Erika Piancastelli and Aleshia Ocasio will serve as captains for Week 5 and drafted a new set of teams on Tuesday night. Mauga was taken in the eighth round by Team Warren. Pendley will play with Team Ocasio and reunite with her sister after the pair were split up the last two weeks.
The final week of games begins on Saturday with Pendley and Team Ocasio taking on Mauga and Team Warren at 12 p.m. CT on ESPN3. On Sunday, Mauga plays Team Piancastelli at 12 p.m., and Pendley meets Team Osterman at 3 p.m. Both games will air on ESPN2.
The pair's final games of the season come Monday evening on CBS Sports Network. Pendley leads off against Team Piancastelli at 3 p.m., and Mauga gets the nightcap against Team Osterman at 7 p.m.
