STARKVILLE – The Mississippi State women's golf program is set to host its annual home tournament once again this fall on October 19-21 at Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, Mississippi.
The home event, now known as The Ally, is in honor of former Mississippi State golfer Ally McDonald Ewing. During her time at State, she was recognized as an All-American, All-SEC player and set numerous program records. The Fulton, Mississippi, native has represented the program on the LPGA Tour for the last five years and was selected to compete in last year's prestigious Solheim Cup.
"The opportunity to rename the home event in honor of Ally McDonald Ewing, the multiple All-American, multiple All-SEC player, is certainly an honor only the best deserves," head coach Ginger Brown-Lemm said. "She helped us turn this program around in the early years of my tenure here at Mississippi State, as she led with fire and enthusiasm, breaking every record during her time in the maroon. Her love of Mississippi State athletics continues to this day as she represents our program by competing with class and a love for the game on the LPGA Tour. We are so proud of her and the impact she made in our program."
After the possibility of the fall season being cancelled due to COVID-19, the Mississippi State Bulldogs are one of just three schools to be hosting an event this fall. The event will feature a loaded field with all 14 SEC programs and Southern Miss.
"We are honored to put our top-50 course venue in Old Waverly Golf Club on display," head coach Ginger Brown-Lemm said. "We did not know whether we would even have a fall season, but we still prepared to host, and we are sure glad we did. As in every other sport, the SEC has the most elite competition. Hosting multiple top-20 teams here at Old Waverly is an opportunity for us to take advantage of our home course. Ending the season on a win in Arizona last February, we are excited to get back out and perform as a squad."
The Bulldogs will open their season traveling to Fayetteville, Arkansas for the Blessings Collegiate Invitational on October 5-7. As previously announced, the tournament will be broadcasted on the GOLF Channel from 3:30-6:30 p.m. CT each day.
