Brown-Lemm Announces Signing of Mendizabal to 2020 Class

STARKVILLE – Mississippi State women's golf coach Ginger Brown-Lemm announced the addition of Valeria Mendizabal to the 2020 signing class.

"It's not too often a player like Val comes up in the transfer portal," said Brown-Lemm. "She is a seasoned international competitor, brilliant student and has dominated her time in the college ranks with her team's MVP award and an under-par 71.6 stroke average. She fits with who we are as a program and university, and we couldn't be more thrilled to add her to the family."

Mendizabal, who is ranked 253 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, joins the Bulldogs after competing for UTEP the previous three seasons. As a junior during the 2019-20 campaign, she earned First Team All-Conference USA honors after winning two tournament titles and leading the conference with an impressive 71.6 stroke average in 20 rounds. The Guatemala City, Guatemala, native never shot worse than 75 in a single round last season, and she totaled six top-10 finishes and recorded 12 rounds of par or better.

For her collegiate career, Mendizabal boasts 11 top-10 finishes and has 26 rounds of par or better. During her prep career, she won the Central American Junior Tournament in 2014 and 2015 as well as the 2015 Guatemalan Junior Open Championship, 2015 Enrique Santos Cordoba Cup, 2016 Mayan Open, 2016 Disney Junior Classic and 2016 National Games.

Mendizabal joins Jarutrawee "Saiparn" Khotchagrai of Bangkok, Thailand, to make up the 2020 signing class for the Bulldogs.

Khotchagrai has proven herself as a standout golfer, having represented herself and her country of Thailand with pride on the international stage. She qualified for the Chang Circuit National Championship for the past three years, including a win at the regional event, the Chang-Chiang-Mai Juniors International Golf Championship in 2017. She also finished runner-up at the 35th Thailand National Jr. Golf Championship, earning her spot on the Bangkok Team in 2018 and 2019.
