STARKVILLE, Miss. – Peyton Bair, an incoming freshman for the Mississippi State Track and Field program, has been named the Gatorade Player of the Year for Track and Field for his home state of Idaho.
Â
Bair, a graduate of Kimberly High School, earned the honor for the state of Idaho, and is the first honoree to be chosen from his school. The 6-foot-3, Kimberly, Idaho native competes in both the hurdles and in the decathlon.Â
Â
In 2019, Bair was the Decathlon Champion for the USATF Junior Olympics with 6,913 points overall. At the time, that total ranked as the No. 24 mark in prep competitor history. He also has 10 State Champion titles to his name, setting four meet records at the 2019 Class 3A Outdoor State Championships, winning the 110m high hurdles, 300m intermediate hurdles, long jump, and was the second leg of the 4x400m relay squad. Bair also holds the state record for the 300m hurdles.
Â
Alongside his athletic achievements, Bair was a member of the local 4-H Club, producing a Grand Champion Steer at the Twin Falls County Fair. He volunteered locally in his community as a youth track coach and participated in several community service initiatives through his church. He also maintained high grades for his work in the classroom, graduating with a 3.88 GPA.
Â
"It feels great to win this award," said Bair. "It was nice that they were able to do that even though we didn't have a season." Bair says he is ready to get on campus and start working to compete as a Bulldog after a two-year mission.
