STARKVILLE – Mississippi State's Mitchell Storm had the opportunity to attend SEC Spring Meetings which took place over video conferences during the last two weeks of May.
Storm, the chair of the SEC Men's Basketball Leadership Council, was joined by Jake Gibbons (Texas A&M – swimming & diving), Jailyn Mason (Arkansas – women's basketball) and MoMo Sanogo (Ole Miss – football).
"Everyone within the SEC, especially Commissioner Greg Sankey and Director of Student-Athlete Engagement Misty Brown, has been exceptional in making sure that the voices of student-athletes are heard in these changing times in our country and in the world of college athletics," Storm said. "It has been incredible to see the leaders within each university and each athletic department come together to find solutions that benefit both the student and the athlete in the best ways possible."
The quartet had the opportunity to attend four virtual meetings along with provide institutional leaders feedback on the student-athlete experience and offered input on proposed SEC and NCAA legislation.
The group met with SEC Faculty Athletics Representatives, Senior Woman Administrators and Presidents and Chancellors in addition to a joint meeting of the SEC's Athletics Directors, Faculty Athletics Representatives and Senior Woman Administrators. The four student-athletes are members of one of the SEC's Student-Athlete Leadership Councils or the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
Mississippi State won 11 of its last 15 SEC games to earn a top 4 finish in the conference standings, the program's highest overall regular season finish since 2010-11. The Bulldogs have tucked away three consecutive 20-plus win seasons under sixth-year coach Ben Howland, and the first time dating back to the 2007-08, 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons. The 68 victories are the fourth-highest total in program history for a three-year span.
