Storm, Waldner Named McWhorter Award Nominees

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – Mississippi State's Mitchell Storm of men's basketball and MaKayla Waldner of soccer have been nominated for the H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship announced Friday by the Southeastern Conference.
The H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship has been presented by the SEC dating back to 1986 to the league's top male and female scholar-athletes. This year's scholarship recipients will be selected in late May by a SEC Faculty Athletics Representatives committee representing all 14 member institutions.

Previous Mississippi State recipients of the McWhorter Scholar-Athlete of the Year Post-Graduate Scholarship are Burke Masters (1990 – Baseball), Aimee York (1993 – Volleyball), Tammy Newlon (Women's Basketball – 1994), April Ecke (1995 – Women's Cross Country), Jeremy Jackson (1998 – Baseball) and Scott Westerfield (2001 – Football).

- 2019 SEC Co-Scholar-Athlete of the Year and SEC Community Service Team
- Three-time President's List selection and received SEC honor roll recognition every season
- Earned MSU's Newsom Award for soccer, given to the player with the highest GPA on the team as a junior
- Soccer representative on MSU's Student-Athlete Advisory Council
- Volunteers in Starkville with the Salvation Army's Red Kettle Campaign and the Boys and Girls Club
- Finished third in school history with 59 career points and second with 28 career goals
- Holds school record for game-winning goals (11) and set the single-season record (5) in 2017
- 2019 First Team All-SEC, fourth first-team selection in MSU history and the first since Catalina Perez in 2017
