Bulldogs Set for 2020 SEC Indoor Championships

STARKVILLE – The Mississippi State track and field teams open postseason action at the SEC Indoor Championships in College Station, Texas. The meet is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, Feb. 28-29 at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium on Texas A&M's campus.
"We've been preaching all year what it means and how difficult it is to score at the conference meet," head coach Chris Woods said. "We've ran at some high level competitions and we've been all over the country, competing against people from different conferences and people not in conferences as well. From a mental standpoint, we've been prepared for this moment and weekend all year. Now it's just a matter of us as a coaching staff and the student athletes to go and execute what we've been preparing for all year."
On the men's side, the Bulldogs will compete against eight teams ranked inside the top 25 of the USTFCCCA Track & Field Ratings Index (TFRI), including No. 2 LSU, No. 3 Florida, No. 6 Georgia, No. 8 Tennessee, No. 10 Arkansas, No. 13 Texas A&M, No. 19 Kentucky and No. 23 Alabama.
MSU's women will face eight ranked opponents, including four of the top five programs in No. 1 LSU, No. 2 Georgia, No. 3 Arkansas, No. 5 Texas A&M. No. 6 Kentucky, No. 11 Florida, and No. 17 and No. 20 Ole Miss round out those ranked in the top 25.
State opens the weekend on Friday with Jesse Henderson in the heptathlon at 11:15 a.m. CT. The women's distance medley relay of Silvia De La Pena Garibay, San'Toria Harris, Breja Hooks and Sylvia Russell will wrap up day 1 beginning at 9:21 p.m.
Henderson will get things started on Saturday for the Maroon and White in the 60m hurdles at 10 a.m.
A live stream of the meet will be available both days online, courtesy of SEC Network+, beginning at 5:10 p.m. on Friday and 3:55 p.m. on Saturday. In addition, there will be a delayed airing of the Championship on SEC Network on Sunday at 8 p.m. The talent for the broadcast will be Dwight Stones, Dan O'Brien, Jill Montgomery and Larra Overton.
The SEC Championships are the Bulldogs' final chance to record qualifying marks for the 2020 NCAA Indoor Championships. The top 16 athletes in the nation will adance to compete on March 13-14 at the Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
