STARKVILLE – Defense was the story for former Bulldogs in the NFL in Week 10. Mississippi State saw 14 former student-athletes take the field this week with just two playing on the offensive side of the ball.
The duo held its own, however. Green Bay's Elgton Jenkins played every snap and did not allow a single pressure. As a whole, the Packers' line allowed just one sack. The Raiders' Gabe Jackson allowed just two total pressures in a win against Denver.
Defensively, Montez Sweat (WAS) and Pernell McPhee (BAL) tied for the fourth-highest overall grade in the league this week, with both posting a 90.0 mark according to Pro Football Focus. For McPhee, it was his highest grade since Week 15 of the 2017 season, and every one of his tackles was considered a "stop," which is a tackle that constitutes a failure for the offense.
Denico Autry changed the momentum of the game on Thursday Night Football as the Colts cruised to a 34-17 victory over the Titans. Autry picked up a sack on third down in the third quarter to force the Titans to punt. Indianapolis took a three-point lead with a touchdown on the ensuing drive and did not allow Tennessee to score again.
In addition to Jenkins, the Green Bay-Jacksonville game was highlighted by Bulldogs. Jacksonville's Logan Cooke punted six times, with four landing inside Green Bay's 10-yard line. He pinned Green Bay at its own 4-yard line and its own 2-yard line in the third quarter with the Jaguars trailing. The punt to the 2-yard line led to the Jaguars recovering a fumble and then scoring a game-tying touchdown.
The Packers' Preston Smith tied his career high with 2.0 tackles for loss. He also made a crucial sack for a loss of 10 yards on third down of the Jaguars' final possession of the game.
