October 27, 2020 | Men's Golf
FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Mississippi State's men's golf program shot 10-under on Tuesday to finish 13th at the Vanderbilt Legends Collegiate on Tuesday. The Bulldogs shot a 2-under 850 for the tournament.
Â
In his first collegiate action, freshman Loïc Ettlin fired an impressive 4-under 67 while collecting seven birdies in the final round. He finished the tournament tied for 53rd with teammate Garrett Johnson at 2-over. Johnson carded a season-best 70 and shot three birdies on Tuesday.Â
Â
Sophomore Ben Nelson produced the Bulldogs' highest finish, tying for 40th. Nelson tied his career-low round with a 3-under 68 and finished the tournament at an even 213.
"I am proud of the response we had today as a team," head coach Dusty Smith said. "I think today's round showed what kind of team we are and showed the heart and character we have. Loïc and Ben did a great job leading the way in today's round. We had all five guys in it and that's why we were able to post a low number. We need to make sure we are better prepared heading into the final event of the fall. In order for us to be successful we have to play with more consistency. We look forward to building on this final round."
Â
Ford Clegg climbed the leaderboard to finish tied for 46th. The sophomore collected four birdies and shot a 2-under 69.
Â
No Bulldog shot over par on Tuesday, and three finished multiple strokes below par. Junior Cameron Clarke shot an even 71 on Tuesday.Â
Â
The Bulldogs will take one week off before traveling to Vestavia Hills, Alabama, for the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate on Nov. 9-10
